A second and third Town Center in Castle Age make more villagers. More villagers make more army later. Booming while your first Town Center is under Knights is how you lose.
When to use it
When Feudal Age was quiet, when you have a wall, or when you already traded well and can afford extra Town Centers plus some army.
Suitable civilizations
Britons get Town Centers for 50% less wood from Castle Age. Khmer farms support the food. Franks get free mill techs. Byzantines can boom behind cheap trash. Celts have extra wood.
Map, mode, and patch
Land maps with space. 1v1 random map. Briton and Khmer eco bonuses are from official strings.
Steps and priorities
- Do not start the boom in Feudal Age unless you are a Cuman, which this site has not published yet.
- Place the second Town Center on wood or extra gold, not on the front line.
- Keep one production building alive. A boom with zero army is a gift.
- Farms around every Town Center. Khmer farms do not need a drop site. Other civs do.
- Add the third Town Center when the second is already making villagers and you still have map control.
- Switch into army when you see their Castle Age military, not when you feel like it.
Approximate timing
Castle Age extra Town Centers happen "as soon as the wood and the safety exist." Two minutes of idle on three Town Centers wastes the whole idea.
How opponents counter it
Knights. Scorpions. A forward Castle. Anything that kills villagers faster than you replace them. Relic monks if you never left the house.
How to adapt
If they attack, spend wood on army buildings and Houses, not on a fourth Town Center. If they also boomed, the first player to add a real composition (Knights, xbows, Scorpions) usually wins the middle.
