Verified

A Stable in Feudal Age to raid woodlines with Scout Cavalry. Best on open maps with hunt.

Idle Villager is current for Update 177723, with minor updates through 180059. Facts on this page were checked on 2026-09-19. Counters are not unconditional. Numbers, upgrades, terrain, and micro change the fight.

Times are glance marks, not a streamer clock. Loom, animal spawn, and idle villagers move them. Food in the bank matters more than the minute. Strongest for Mongols. Khmer and Franks can use the same shape.

A Feudal Stable lets you train Scout Cavalry. They cost food only. They raid lumberjacks and isolated villagers. They die to Spearmen.

When to use it

Open maps with room to run. Stronger if you have hunt (Mongols) or extra mounted HP (Franks from Feudal Age, Mongol Scout HP later). Khmer can fund it because farms drop food without a walk back.

Suitable civilizations

Mongols first. Khmer and Franks are fine. Celts can do it. Britons would rather make archers. Byzantines can, but cheap spears on the other side of the map should make you nervous.

Map, mode, and patch

Open land, 1v1 random map. Scout Cavalry stats are from the current dat extract. Update 177723 did not retune this opening.

Steps and priorities

  1. Play a clean Dark Age. You need food for Feudal Age and then more food for Scouts.
  2. Place a Barracks if the game requires it to unlock the Stable, unless you are Khmer. Khmer may skip that building requirement.
  3. Place a Stable. Research the attack upgrade and Bloodlines if your civ has them. Franks do not have Bloodlines. Their mounted HP bonus already started in Feudal Age.
  4. Raid woodlines. Do not fight Spearmen in a clump.
  5. Add a second Stable only if the raids are landing. If you see three Spearmen, stop donating Scouts.

Approximate timing

Use the glance clock on this page. Scout numbers still matter more than the minute. A six Scout raid with upgrades beats ten Scouts with no blacksmith.

How opponents counter it

Spearmen. Walls. Archers if they already have a mass. A tower on a woodline. All of those are cheaper than losing four lumberjacks.

How to adapt

If you see spears, add Skirmishers or click Castle Age toward Knights. If you killed villagers, keep making Scouts and take their hunt. If nothing landed, you are behind on extra Town Centers. Boom instead of forcing a dead raid.
