This is the same job every game. Make villagers. Do not idle the Town Center. Keep the Scout moving. Build Houses before you hit the population cap.
When to use it
Always, on land maps.
Suitable civilizations
Every published civ on this site. Mongols should hunt more. Britons should sheep more. Franks should forage more. Khmer can plant farms without a Mill, but a Mill is still a good building later.
Steps and priorities
- Queue villagers on the Town Center until you click Feudal Age. Idle Town Center is the most common beginner leak.
- Sheep under the Town Center first. Then lumber. Then a boar when you have Loom if you are new.
- Place Houses early. Khmer Houses can also garrison villagers, which is a bonus, not a reason to skip Houses.
- Scout the opponent's Town Center, their woodlines, and leftover hunt. You are looking for military buildings, not ruins.
- Click Feudal Age when you have the food and the villager count your opening needs. Use the glance clock on this page. If villagers are idle, you are late.
Approximate timing
Treat Dark Age as "until the food for Feudal Age is in the bank." The glance clock is a target, not a promise. Do not copy a streamer's clock if your Town Center sat idle.
How opponents counter it
They do not counter Dark Age fundamentals. They punish idle Town Center with an earlier army.
How to adapt
If you lose a Scout, make another from the Stable once you have Feudal Age, or keep a villager on the edge of the fog. If you lose villagers to wolves or a sneak militia, restore the villager count before you click up.
Assumptions
1v1, standard resources, open land. Loom before dangerous hunts if you are still learning.
